Brett Nugent is a twenty-one (21) year old young man, who sustained a serious injury during a hockey game between the SHAWVILLE PONTIACS and the PERTH BLUE WINGS on October 27, 2013 at the Perth Arena. Unfortunately, Brett has been permanently disabled due to quadriplegia. Brett is an absolutely great young man with an amazing very positive attitude. It is rare indeed not to find a smile on Brett’s face. Brett comes from a great family, who have been very supportive of Brett .
During the 2014/2015 hockey season, Brett was the assistant general manager of the Shawville Pontiacs of the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League. Shawville is a great hockey town and is home to Bryan Murray, Terry Murray, Tim Murray and Frank Finnegan. Brett made very positive contributions to the team during the hockey season and the team made it to the first round of the playoffs . Brett inspired every player and offered great positive advice to all players. Unfortunately, 2014/2015 marked the final season for the Shawville Pontiacs as the Eastern Ontario Hockey League no longer exists.
Brett plans to attend Carleton University next year. It would be great for Brett to once again have some independence by having a vehicle with the necessary adaptations to allow Brett the independence to drive on his own. I have attached a picture of the type of vehicle we have in mind for Brett. The vehicle in question will cost approximately $75,000.00. As such, many of Brett’s team-mates, Ryan Barber, my son, Chris, and I will be walking from Aylmer, Quebec to Shawville Quebec on Saturday July 4, 2015 to raise funds to assist Brett with the purchase of this vehicle, and we would appreciate your assistance by sponsoring our walk. If you wish to sponsor our walk, contributions may be made by using PayPal (which is found on the homepage of this site), or by forwarding cheques payable to the BRETT NUGENT TRUST and forwarding any cheques to my office at the address below or; alternatively, by email transfers forwarded to Cathy Nugent’s email at cnugent@wqsb.qc.ca. Your sponsorship for this walk to assist Brett would be greatly appreciated ! In particular, the support of the hockey family (players, coaches, managers, fans, family & friends) would be greatly appreciated!
